The Covenants Today

The Reformed Presbyterian Church maintains the National Covenant   of 1638 and the Solemn League and Covenant of 1643 still apply today. The Solemn League and Covenant was signed by the Parliaments of England and Scotland and thousands of people in England, Scotland and Ireland.

Soon after his Restoration, Charles II had the Covenanters publicly burnt in England and Scotland, and the Irish Parliament did the same. Since the ‘Glorious’ Revolution, the covenants have been largely forgotten. However these nations swore before God to uphold these covenants and burning or ignoring the covenants does not change that obligation. England, Scotland and Ireland are guilty before God of breaking their solemn promises to God.

‘The Reformed Presbyterian Church of Ireland regards the principles of the Scottish Covenants as still binding, unreservedly accepts the obligation imposed by them, and grieves because they have been repudiated by the nation to its incalculable loss.’ (The Testimony of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Ireland: Covenanting).
